Food Contact

Regulations in Europe—EU Status

n the European Union, unreinforced and glass fiber-reinforced VESTAKEEP® PEEK compounds are approved for contact with foodstuffs because the monomers and additives on which they are based are on the positive list of Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. Restrictive migration values must be observed on the finished article and, for glass fiber-reinforced VESTAKEEP® PEEK grades, special marketing conditions and conditions of use must also be observed (principle of "Mutual Recognition”).

Please contact us at any rate if you’re using VESTAKEEP® PEEK for contact with food. Our Environment, Health, Safety, & Quality department will check and confirm the approval for your selected molding compound.

Regulations in USA—FDA Status

In the United States, FDA Regulation 21 CFR, § 177.2415 covers polyaryletherketone polymers (PEEK) that come into contact with food. Since the polymers on which the unreinforced and glass fiber-reinforced VESTAKEEP® PEEK compounds are based meet these regulations (except VESTAKEEP® 1000), these compounds are suitable for food contact applications in the United States for articles intended for repeated use.

In this case also, please contact us for any case of VESTAKEEP® PEEK use involving food contact. Our Environment, Health, Safety & Quality department will check and confirm the approval for your selected compound.
